Beth Frazer's self portraits were initially triggered through an undiagnosed and untreated illness.
Her own research into her physical pain was through art. The images of herself and the way she presents and exposes her body are strong personal explorations and -in her words- portraits of an illness.
'Drawing on Illness' is primarily a project about photographic self portraits and only secondarily about illness and the subject of art as therapy. As the artist explicitly expresses and investigates the link of art and art therapy or art as therapy, this aspect will be highlighted with a discussion and additional material.
