FRESH CLAY

ARTIST WORKING WITH CERAMICS

Dominic McKeown

Ends 26 August 2023

Following our Fresh Clay open call for an artist working experimentally with ceramics, PS² is delighted to have selected Dominic McKeown.

Dominic will use the PS² Project Space to develop a body of work, approaching the opportunity almost as a form of residency which will see him adding to and amending pieces throughout August. Fresh Clay will culminate in a showcase of the work and an artist talk on the processes through which it has developed.

His work will expand on his research and lived experience to contextualise how multiple learning disabilities feed into each other, affecting elements of ones' identity, everyday life, and personal relationships.

About the artist:

Dominic McKeown in an artist based in Belfast.

His work has been seen in galleries and festivals across Ireland, including The MAC, 126 gallery (Galway), Belfast International Festival of Performance Art (BIFPA) and Draiocht Gallery (Dublin). In 2022, Dominic had solo exhibition, ‘Swaddle’  at University of Atypical. He is currently a Co-Director at Catalyst Arts, where he will present his Director's exhibition in October 2023. In November 2023, Dominic will undertake a prestigious residency at Dundee Contemporary Arts (DCA) Print Studio, supported by Jerwood Developing Artists Fund.

Dominic says:

'During this Fresh Clay project, I will expand on my research and lived experience to contextualise how multiple learning disabilities feed into each other, affecting elements of my identity, everyday life, and personal relationships.

My work derives from exposing the tensions between domestic and non-domestic materials, existing in a state of flux between the two. My practice expands on how material qualities are sensed, interpreted and understood to form space, and as a foundation, interlinks the relationship between materials, architecture, fashion and identity.'
