Silk Scarf and Dance - call out for expressions of interest

A choreographic laboratory

Lillian Ross-Millard and Anne White, curated by Cecelia Graham and Grace Jackson

Ends 11 March 2024

Silk Scarf and Dance (Thursday 18 - Saturday 20 April 2024) is a choreographic laboratory exploring– quite literally– how lost objects move us. We want to collectively survey the intertwined experience of material and loss through movement. The sessions involve physical and vocal warm-ups and devising techniques made up of games, writing exercises, and movement exploration. The work will be documented using video.

We invite you to join us to form a temporary ensemble of interdisciplinary artists. You do not need to identify as an artist or dancer to participate. We are interested in gathering a diverse group of practitioners, and will be open to all expressions of interest. Information on how to submit is included below

● Remember.

● Catalogue.

● Request.

● Dance.

About the artists

Lead artists– myself and Anne White – are long term collaborators, and love to work in new collaborative conglomerates. We share training in experimental devised theatre, and have continued to diversify our respective tool belts. Both from Tkaronto/Toronto, our studies took us across the North Atlantic Ocean: myself to Glasgow where I did my MFA at the Glasgow School of Art; Anne to Paris where she completed training at L’école Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq. We value structured collaborations as we feel they are the best way to take care of the ensemble, and the best use of the most precious of resources: time with people in space.

How to apply

As spaces are limited, to ensure a comfortable and open space for all, we are requesting that those who wish to attend the laboratory send a short expression of interest, and fill out the Availability and Contact form here.

The requirements are:

a.) you also value time with people in space, and will uphold a safe and supportive space for all

b.) your commitment to attending at least one full session

c.) you feel you have something to offer the process

Please send your short expression of interest in writing or a recorded video (Max two minutes) to silkscarf.dance@gmail.com. There is also the option to arrange a short online video interview if required.

The expression could take any form - bullet points, creative responses. The expressions of interest should introduce us to your practice, and demonstrate why you’re interested in participating. We will request access riders at a later date, but feel free to include any access requirements you’d like us to be aware of at this time.

For videos larger than 25 mb send a Wetransfer link within the body of the email. For text, all formats are acceptable. Please include “Expression of Interest” in the subject heading.

We look forward to hearing from you!
