About the artist
Anna Vidamour’s practice explores the complexity of the human condition, in response to her lived experiences. From the branching patterns of veins on our hands to the neural pathways in the brain, her work suggests a metaphysical imprint of spiritual interconnectivity. Drawing inspiration from the mycelium networks beneath the earth, she reflects on how all things are interwoven through a macroscopic lens.
Influenced by Newton’s first law of inertia, Vidamour works across a range of disciplines—including large-scale installation, ritualistic lens-based work, composed frequencies, and sculpture. Her process often begins with layered abstract paintings, allowing the subconscious to take the lead. The materials evoke heightened sensory experiences, illustrating how the brain and body are irreversibly transformed by trauma.
Mirroring the neural plasticity of the brain, her degree-show installation Inuiria grew organically from the structural beams, inviting viewers to experience it from multiple perspectives. This large-scale piece combined 130 meters of rope and 250 torn bin bags to visualise the stagnancy stored in the body. Ephemeral imagery of mangled female organs and phallic petals contrasted with the weight and tension of the ropes. In response to complex trauma, these biomorphic forms hung exposed—vulnerable yet defiant—as a method of reclaiming agency.
